About Me

Dr. Kara Yeoman

Dr. Kara Yeoman is a lifelong educator. Her first teaching job was in the U.S. Peace Corps, as an English instructor at a junior high in the Republic of Kiribati.

Upon returning, she obtained her Masters Degree in Special Education, and worked with at-risk youth.

In 2010, she began teaching in the public school system, working in both mild to moderate and moderate to severe special day classes. It was then that she realized that she had a passion for educational technology, and completed her Doctorate in Distance Learning and Educational Technology.

It was at this time, that Dr. Yeoman’s daughter needed an IEP. Sitting on the parent side of the table was a truly life changing experience for her, and offered a deep understanding of the emotional journey of parent with a student with an IEP.

Education leadership became an inspiration for Dr. Yeoman, and she spent four years serving as a Program Specialist and Summer School Principal. In these positions, she was able to examine the needs of students through a wider lens.
Dr. Yeoman believes that social skills curriculum, facilitation of play and peer relationships, and implementation of coping skills and emotional regulation strategies are a huge area of need for so many students. From this inspiration, Lighthouse Consulting was born.
